Sink down, sink down, sink deeper and deep

Into eternal and primordial sleep.

Sink down, forget, be still and draw apart

into the inner earth’s most secret heart.

Drink of the waters of Persephone:

the secret well beside the sacred tree.

I am the secret queen, Persephone.

All tides are mine and answer unto me.

Tides of the airs, tides of the inner earth,

the silent secret tides of death and birth ~

Tides of men’s souls and dreams, and destiny ~

And so we are asked to embrace a new beginning with the Scorpio New Moon this weekend. This New Moon (23º Scorpio 18’) is exactly sextile the Jupiter/Pluto conjunction that just perfected on Thursday. Combined with the direct station of Mars on Friday, the rebuilding of our lives, of society, of our very planet, begins in earnest. And as we dig down into the primordial depths of Scorpio, we also discover the strength, power, and resources to do so. Scorpio is the womb, from which all is generated. And so we reach the primordial potential of our being. Go with caution and wisdom. A little goes a long way. This New Moon is generating tremendous transformative power, and if we were to just channel even a bit of this potential, we could accomplish almost anything.

New Moons are times of new beginnings, and this is a moon to make positive changes and transitions in our lives. Or at the very least to plant the seeds to do so. But in order to plant seeds for a new beginning, we must first let go of those things that we have outgrown, and are no longer relevant to who we are becoming. And so we also turn within, to reflect on those things in our lives that are no longer serving us in a purposeful way, and might even be an obstacle to our mental, physical, material, or psychological well-being. As we are immersed in the deep well waters of Persephone this week, we are also being asked to allow ourselves to willingly flow with her inimitable tides of endings and beginnings, of birth, death and renewal. We do so, in order to meet our destiny.

It is important to do this inner work in order to be successful. This includes releasing and letting go of any old anger, frustration or resentments as we move into the next lunar period. We are finally well out of the shadow of the Mercury retrograde and afflictions to Saturn, but now that it is in Scorpio, if we are carrying old resentments with us they would only deepen and eventually explode. This is because the first transit Mercury makes is an opposition to Uranus. This is the same transit that Mercury made when it stationed retrograde in October, and that was brought to a final crescendo with the Full Moon on October 31st. Chaotic, changeable, revealing. We are being asked to remain flexible through the middle of next week.

Mars finally and thankfully is direct as of Friday, and should eventually restore our energy along its forward momentum. In its own fiery domain, Mars in Aries is unrestrained, buoyant and enthusiastic. It brings the initiative and drive to look forward, not back. However, the impetuous and fearless energy of Mars in Aries is a mixed blessing, as Mars in Aries is also more inclined to blow up now that it is direct. And this is all the more likely in December when Mars will be square Pluto.

But in the mean time, the direct motion of Mars will give the sort of momentum this New Moon could really use to fulfill the promise of its potential. New Moons are almost always auspicious for starting new initiatives, and setting intentions. With the sextile to Jupiter and Pluto, this Moon is powerfully transformative. All the more so with the jet fuel known as Mars in Aries adding a dash of energy and enthusiasm.

If you wish to make intentions or set affirmations with the New Moon, you would want to do so within the New Moon phase which begins here in New York at 12:07 AM (EST) on November 15th (5:07 AM Universal time) thru Wednesday, November 18th. Some things that this Moon would be particularly good for:

  • Initiatives for remodeling, self-improvement, transformation, reinventing and rebuilding from the ashes of what once was

  • Using your influence, resources and skills to achieve a major goal or benefit the greater good

  • Seeking and receiving guidance along your path

  • Tuning in to our own magical potential, powers of divination and visualization

  • Paying attention to whether or not we are living up to our own moral and ethical standards

  • Opportunities for growth and the fulfillment of a larger vision
